선화랑은 1977년, 개관이래 회화, 조각, 사진, 판화, 공예 등 미술 전반에 걸쳐 다양한 작가들의 작품을 엄선하여 500여 회 이상의 기획 전시를 개최해 왔으며, 국내외 유수한 아트 페어에 참가하는 등 한국 현대미술의 성장과 발전을 견인해온 명문 화랑으로 공인받고 있습니다.
1979년에는 대중을 위한 미술문화 계간지 ‘선미술’을 창간하여 52호를 거치며 53명의 특집 작가를 조명하였고, 1984년에는 '선미술상’을 제정하여 22명의 선미술상 수상 작가를 배출하였습니다. 마르크 샤갈 (Marc Chagall), 앙투안 부르델 (Emile Antoine Bourdelle), 마리노 마리니 (Marino Marini), 사진 그룹 매그넘(Magnum) 등 외국의 거장 작품들 외에도, 많은 현대 미술의 현역 작가 작품들을 국내에 소개하는 데도 남다른 노력을 기울여 왔습니다. 독창성과 높은 완성도가 돋보이는 역량 있는 작가들을 소개하고 있으며 현대사회와 현대인에게 필요한 메시지를 내포한 작품들은 많은 미술 애호가들에게 감동과 공감대를 형성하며, 현재 미술시장에서 지속적인 관심과 사랑을 받고 있습니다. 오랜 기간 쌓아온 전문적인 지식과 경험을 바탕으로 한국미술계와 미술시장 발전에 더욱 노력하겠습니다.
In 1977, a moderate-size single-story building with impressive red bricks appeared in Insa-dong to announce the historic opening of the SUN Gallery. Since then, SUN Gallery has held more than 500 special exhibitions with carefully selected works by various artists across art genres such as painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and crafts, and participated in leading art fairs at home and abroad. Now it is recognized as a prestigious gallery that has led the growth and development of Korean contemporary art.
In 1979, SUN Gallery launched SUN Art Magazine, an art and culture quarterly for the general public, covering 53 featured artists through 52 issues. In 1984 it established the SUN Art Award and awarded 22 artists. In addition to the works of foreign masters such as Marc Chagall, Emile Antoine Bourdelle, Marino Marini, and the photography group Magnum, SUN Gallery has made extraordinary efforts to introduce the works of many contemporary artists to the Korean audience.
