The exhibition «The Art of Calligraphy: Modern and Contemporary Korean Calligraphy», originally held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea in 2020, is now being hosted at the Hsing Shan Calligraphy Art Museum in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, by invitation. This exhibition features the work ®-1997-3 (116.8 x 80.3 cm, Oil on Canvas, 1997) by the late artist Lee Chung Ji. The works <○>, <共生>, <Circle>, and <MUⓇUE>, a term coined by the artist combining the French words for ”wall“ (mur) and ”street“ (rue), all symbolize themes of integration and communication. Through his work, Lee Chung Ji sought to create a world of balance and harmony without bias. Beyond simply reuniting calligraphy and painting, his works show a formal integration of elements often considered dichotomous or contrasting, such as the dark background and light-colored writing, irregular brushstrokes and orderly lines, and the mind and body.
