일본 유학 시절 순금 금박에 깊이 매료되었다는 채은미 작가는 금(Gold)과 자개(Mother of pearl)를 새롭게 수용해 독창적인 기법으로 간결하면서도 세련된 현대적 조형성을 보여준다. 금박과 자개를 주요 작품 재료로 사용하는 채은미 작가는 금색 큐브의 연속적인 형태로 전하는 금빛의 시각적인 울림으로 공간을 사유의 시간으로 채운다. 순금 금박을 통한 강렬한 색 면들은 다양한 각도로 반사되며(Reflection) 금빛으로 일렁이며 작품을 둘러싼 공간의 분위기를 고조시킨다. 여러 겹의 금박과 큐브를 무수히 반복하여 덧붙이는 작가의 작업은 오랜 시간의 과정이 필요하며 이는 수행과 닮아있다. 예술가로서 오직 한 길로만 치열하게 살아온 채은미 작가는 홍콩, 중국, 싱가포르, 일본, 뉴욕, 유럽, 두바이, 아랍 최근에는 아부다비까지 전 세계적으로 활동영역을 넓히면서 에너지 넘치는 작품에 매진하며 선보이고 있다.
“In the beginning, butterflies were capable of flying as their wings were all torn up and made of various different fragments. One day, a golden seed was planted in the heart of a butterfly who wanted so dearly to fly. The seed began to sprout leaves, flowers and fruits. The flowers began to cover and mend the butterfly’s wings until the butterfly was resurrected and finally able to fly towards its dreams with the aroma of beauty, love and blessings to the world.” -Chae Eunmi
